Patrizia Gapp is a trained sociologist who appreciates the medium of photography because she can use it to examine the themes of our time and of her generation. Her works, mostly in series, deal with role models, issues of identity, relationships, growing up and migration.
Within the framework of a research project, she establishes the first contact with adolescents with an immigrant background. Through conversations, interviews and through contact with organisations dealing with immigration, she gains a growing insight into the world views of the adolescents. Her interest is increasingly oriented to the concepts of life and living situations of girls and young women. “During the extended afternoons together they tell me about school, their friends, fears and plans, their interests and their families. I am constantly surprised about new views and I must admit that I had a preconceived idea of them in my head. But this is slowly blurring and it is not clear anymore. And the girls are surprised, too. About my interest and the energy I am investing in this project. Out of this mutual process and exchange a very intimate series emerges.”
